The art of Selfcare Series || Part 1: What is Self Care? It’s more important than you think!

There has been a lot of history behind the concept of self-care, with external forces pushing this concept to the fore of people's minds. However, whatever your reasons for practicing it, self-care makes you consistently combat stress. We all know that you cannot function at your best or take care of others without taking proper care of yourself. And this doesn't solely apply to taking care of your physical self- it also requires your attention in areas of life such as mental and emotional health.

To help women devote time to self-care in a way that’s sustainable, I created Selfcarequeen, an online wellness community for women and moms.

But what exactly is Selfcare? And how can you practice it? Over the next several weeks I will be dissecting the 7 different areas of Selfcare with tips on how to practice it.. Starting w/ Physical.

Physical self care

The type of self-care that is most likely familiar to you is physical self-care. Physical self-care isn’t just about a person’s basic needs of food, water, sleep, and shelter. It’s not just about getting pedicures and massages every day either. There are a number of dos and don’ts when it comes to physical self-care that a person can practice to ensure their body is functioning at its best.

And in some cases, this means getting regular exercise, eating organic and healthy foods. It also means drinking lots of water, practicing proper hand-washing and other hygiene habits, and giving your body the proper rest that it needs. When you prioritize physical self-care, you are giving your body the best opportunity to function properly and effectively.

The physical side of self-care also is practicing what to avoid and not do. Such as drugs, excessive alcohol and sugar. Basically anything that can either harm your health or make you feel yuck. This means being intentional about your bedtime, not trying to push through your workday when you are feeling sick, and going to regular doctor and dentist check ups to prevent health setbacks.

"But Tiffany, what exactly does that look like?"

Here are 9 easy ways to contribute to your PHYSICAL SELF CARE:

1.Self-check your currently healthy and not-so-healthy habits so that you can identify your strengths and areas that could use some improvement

2. Practice proper sleep hygiene to procure better sleep

3. Be intentional about hydrating your body

4. Get regular exercise

5. Put sun protection on every morning

6. Eat a healthy diet

7. Take medications as prescribed

8. Attend regularly scheduled preventative medical checks

9. Personalize your style so that it reflects your current lifestyle. i.e, you want to start working out, get some cute workout clothes to help motivate you!

Remember, you are worth the time it takes to ensure that you are showing up for your family and more importantly yourself as the best version of you possible.
